A few weeks ago, I got a call from my buddy Bob, who had an old Bianchi he didn't ride and was going to get rid of. He asked me if I wanted it. The bike belonged to someone we'd both worked with, and his widow had given it to Bob. I told Pat about it, and he said it might be a good geared bike for me. So I took it off Bob's hands.
I don't know much about its provenance. It's from the mid-1980s, I think. The wheels were steel, the shifters and front derailleur are Campagnolo, the rear derailleur was Simplex. Center-pull front brake and side-pull rear brake. San Marco saddle. With the seat post at maximum extension, the fit wasn't bad. The bike rode with a thump, which I found out was caused by a jockey wheel with several teeth missing. Another visit to Wheel Nuts resulted in new alloy wheels (27 inch), tires, and Shimano Sora rear derailleur. I'm still learning to shift, but the action seems smooth. The frame is quite light, and in lower gears I can get up hills that had me really straining on the Schwinn.
There's a lot about the bike I have to learn, and it's going to get a Brooks saddle, probably one in British racing green. Again, some pictures will follow.
